A week on from the 4th Thunder Sunday weekend the dust has settled on a wet race weekend and a flourish of activity in the weeks since.
Team Networking Ltd brought their No 31 car to Rockingham for their first appearance in the series.
Saturday stayed dry although just 10 miles east of Rockingham, over an inch of rain fell. Sunday, however, was not to be so lucky with it being wet from dawn until mid morning. This left the first “Cup Car” race a washout, with the grid of 10 cars being pushed out of the front of the garages for the spectators, and all the drivers braved the weather for interviews with Aimie on pitlane.
As the afternoon drew on the track dried and the second race was on, with the support races running behind schedule, it left the last Pick-Up race and Cup Car race to be squeezed into an action packed last 50 minutes.
The Pick-Ups put on one of their best races this year, and once finished we had to go straight out. The 10 cars present took to the track and it was nice to see the biggest grid so far this season coming down the back stretch ready to take the green flag. Once underway, Colin White took the lead from Ollie Playle with the rest falling back, lap 3 saw the front 2 positions reversed and Ollie pulled away from Colin, by now Shane Brereton was flying and by mid race had caught Colin White to tussle for the second spot. For the final few laps a battle royal ensued with Colin and Shane going two wide for 2 full laps with Shane coming off the better, and although Colin tried hard on the last lap Shane got the 2nd place, and looks like a future champion in the making.
The chequered flag saw Ollie Playle well ahead in 1st, with Shane Brereton 2nd and Colin White 3rd, followed across the line by John Steward and Tony Hurdle in the 4th and 5th positions.
