Networking/Torquespeed unveil their 2nd car at August meeting.
With an 8 week gap between the first race weekend in April and the second meeting, the last 2 months have seen a total of 3 meetings. Time has certainly flown with most cars being on track and supporting various events both locally and throughout the home Counties.
The June meeting was a non starter due to the bad weather, meaning points were shared evenly between the entrants for the two races. Prior to the June meeting 5 cars were present for the weekend of the Abingdon Air show, but again due to bad weather the Sunday was unfortunately cancelled. The July race weekend was also curtailed due to wet conditions.
The July and August race weekend’s were to have 3 races, one non championship and two championship races to make up for the a lost race in June but at the July event, the last race on Sunday was stopped due to rain. The Saturday afternoon race and the first race on Sunday were championship races and points awarded. Colin White and Hunter Abbott shared the race wins and second places with Tony Hurdle sealing a 3rd in the Saturday race and Lee O’Keefe in the Sunday race. Once again the cars all ran safely and the rule change at the start of the season was proving to be a good one with no damage to a cars to date
We were very lucky with the weather for the August meeting with Saturday staying dry for one practice session with one of the closest qualifying sessions ever seen by the V8’s. John Steward grabbed pole with one of his blinders on 36.007 seconds, with 2nd to 8th place covered by just under 0.7 seconds, all under the 37 second barrier, Colin beat Lee to second by just 0.001 of a second.
The Sunday race pace was just as blistering. With the track drying around midday, it was decided to go back to back with the races. Race 1 and John Steward and Colin White took the lead with Lee O'Keefe in 3rd. Colin managed to pass John to win and, although Lee was by this time running same lap times, try as he might, he could not pull the gap back to John who finished in 2nd.
Straight out again for the second race and John was struggling. This allowed Hunter Abbot to come from 4th on the grid to second behind Colin White. Keith White grabbed third with Lee challenging him for the 3rd spot two laps later. Running the same lap times as Colin Lee could not close the gap on Colin until he had a problem. Lee passed the #78 car for 2nd with a lap to go.
There was a notable drive from Duncan Gray in the 31 car for Team Networking/Torquespeed, who slipped to 8th in the early stages but made his way into the 4th spot with a lap to spare.
See you all in September
Duane
