THAT WAS THE SEASON THAT WAS……2007

All reports of the SCSA V8 Trophy’s demise are greatly exaggerated and was proved without a shadow of doubt at the 7th Annual Awards Ball, which was aptly named this year “THE ASCARS”. Teams and drivers from this seasons racing were in attendance along with most of the crews.
The evening kicked off at the Holiday Inn A43 Kettering/Corby, flowing in on a red carpeted entrance, a Champaign reception followed by a very nice 3 course meal with the awards presentation thereafter.
Series Officials, James Wright, John Kennedy and Neil Hurle (awards organiser) presented the Awards to the assembled SCSA fraternity. Now in their second year of presenting the awards they have found a natural flair for the job, rather than reminding everyone of the Marx brothers!
Much meriment followed together with video footage of the season from of our very own film crew, Weebit Productions.
Most awards were voted for on the night, apart from those that were decided at the last meeting in September.
The results were as follows:
Moment Of The Year Award .... Voted for Spotter Of The Year Award ... (Chosen by Chief Spotter John Kennedy) Spirit Of The Series Award ... (Chosen by the 3 officials) USAutomotive Team Of The Year Award ... Voted for Mission Control Rookie Of The Year MAC Tools V8 Trophy 2007 - Championship 2nd Place |
Holiday Inn Most Improved Driver Award ... Voted for Weebit Productions Entertainer Of The Year Award ... Voted for Spirit Of The Series Award ... (Chosen by the 3 officials) Mintex Man Of The Series Award ... Voted for MAC Tools V8 Trophy 2007 - Championship 3rd Place MAC Tools V8 Trophy 2007 - Championship 1st Place |
Once the Awards where complete Duane Kidd talked about the 2008 season and although nothing is set in stone, it would seem that there will be two meetings at 'Rockingham’, one being the season finale at Motofest plus a possible trip to Germany. These 3 meetings will bring the season to a close and the series will probably start with 3 or 4 meetings on road courses.
On the back of the success of the Abingdon Air Show in 2007 the series will go to the Farnborough Air Show in mid July 2008.
Duane believes the above will help give the series a good foundation to build for the future, and the feeling by him and all teams is that the V8’s are in a stronger position than they have been for the last 4 years.
So that was the year that was, once again thank you all for your support
