V8 Trophy Race Report - April 28th/29th 2007

Game On

With the 1st race weekend over we can now assess our winters work
It is now obvious that we have achieved our target within the parameters set for the series and a little bit of tightening up in some small areas will add to the overall effect  for the rebuilt V8 Trophy.

When the teams pulled into Rockingham late Friday all were very impressed with the look of the V8 Village, no one expected the Marquees to be as smart as they are and our thanks go out to All Marquees, who through our links with the Spirit of adventure air shows we are to attend this year, gave us the space to do our job and helped to build on the family bond the V8’s have.

With Miguel Gomes and Adriano Manderos unable to step into the cars available to them due to last minute problems we were left with an 11 car field. These cars made the most of Sunday’s racing by putting on some of the closest racing and finishes seen at the Rock.

Colin and Hunter did a super job in both races but notable thanks must go to two rookies Rob Compton and Chris Robinson who placed some very respectable times for their first outing, Duncan for his first podium and to Shane, who was on for a win in the first race only to loose it whilst trying to get past Hunter on turn 4 and his crew and all those that helped to repair the # 48 car in the nick of time for race 2.

All in all a very successful first race weekend and with more drivers looking at buying cars and taking rookie tests the numbers look set to build as the year progresses, “Build it and they will come” they say, time will tell.
Miguel and Adriano should be ok to race on June 24th, so see you all then with at least 13 cars.
